by Doak Worley I just got through watching “Survivor” on TV. Any “Survivor “ fans out there? Anyway, I saw a commercial about passports, and BAM (I am a chef and an Emeral fan as well as a hunter ) I thought I should write a blog about traveling. Each year thousands of hunters travel to Canada to hunt big game and waterfowl and enjoy some of the best fishing in the world. Canada is quick to get to and you have an abundance of outfitters to choose from. However, crossing the border between Canada and the US is becoming increasingly difficult, whether it’s through the air or by land. The rules have changed dramatically in the last few years so there are a few things that I like to discuss with my hunting and fishing clients before... [SEE MORE]

In the last decade, Safari Club International has spent $140 million on protecting the freedom to hunt through advocacy, research and education to ensure that the hunting heritage is accessible for future generations. These programs benefit hunters throughout North American, and the majority of the work is funded with proceeds from its Annual Hunter’s Convention, January 20-23 in Reno, Nevada. Through direct involvement and partnerships with other conservation organizations, SCI contributes to dozens of projects in the United States and Canada every year. Earlier this year, Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF) and Mossy Oak joined forces to help ensure healthy white-tail deer populations throughout North America. They have provided... From Outdoor Media Resources Each year Convention exhibitors help fund many of SCI’s conservation, education and humanitarian programs. Through their participation as exhibitors and the donation of an incredible array of outstanding auction items, SCI has become the leader in worldwide conservation. In recognition of their contributions, SCI honored an elite group of the top ten exhibitors during the annual Exhibitor Appreciation Party Tuesday evening. President Elect Kevin Anderson expressed SCI’s gratitude to all the exhibitors for their support, particularly in light of the challenging economy, but individually praised the ten exhibitors who have contributed greatly to SCI’s success over the years through their participation in the... Two of the dead animals were trophy rams. A Montana motorist drove his pickup truck through a herd of bighorn sheep near Anaconda, MT, on monday, killing at least eight animals. A tragedy to say the least. The driver, an unnamed adult male of Anaconda, MT, was cited with failure to obey a traffic signal. Two, large electronic signs on both sides of the highway warn motorists to be aware of bighorn sheep on the road. Montana wildlife personnel were looking for other sheep Monday afternoon that left the crash scene after being injured. More sheep deaths are expected. The sheep were on the road because they gather there to lick salt, put there by road crews to melt ice. Read More →

Stacey Huston says ‘look out your window’ We all enjoy venturing out into nature, if for nothing more than to recharge our souls. Nature has a way, if you are willing to put aside the pettiness of life, of putting life into perspective. She shows us the simple little things in life and lays them all out for each to discover. If you are willing to look and listen, nature has the answer to most any problem. I hear people tell me all the time that if they had my camera, or my lens, or if they lived where I do, then they would be able to take good photos too. However, it honestly isn’t the equipment you use; cameras and lenses are only tools, even though I am pretty proud and protective of my camera. It is all in how you choose to look at... [SEE MORE]

By the Boone and Crockett Club .300 Magnums take more North American trophies than any other caliber. Although the venerable .30-06 and .270 remain among the favorites, Boone and Crockett Club big-game records show that hunters with one of the various .300 Magnums are taking decidedly more North American trophies than any other caliber. Surprisingly, the second-most-popular trophy-taker isn’t a firearm — it’s a bow. Boone and Crockett compiled the data from its records book entries from 2007 through 2009. This three-year period of big-game trophies, fair-chase hunting and success in conservation and game management will be celebrated at the Club’s 27th triennial Big Game Awards, June 24-26, 2010, at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. PIERRE, S.D. – A proposal to increase the daily bag limit of pheasants from 3 to 5 was defeated at the monthly GFP Commission meeting in Pierre on Thursday. A proposal needs five votes from the eight member Commission to become rule, but there were only four supporting the measure so the proposal failed to pass. The bag limit for pheasants will remain at 3 daily and 15 in possession. Read More →
