Quite a few of my friends got their wolves in Idaho’s first wolf season last fall. I went wolf hunting a few times, but came up short. One friend of mine got his wolf by North fork Idaho on the 31st of Oct. There was another wolf killed in the same spot the day before and more have been spotted since. There is no shortage. Enjoy the pics. #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } Read More →

Come Hunting with the Outdoors International Team!Well, it’s official. We’re headed to South Africa, and we’re excited to say the least. Our trip is in May and guess what? We need some people to go with us. Wanna come along? What we’ve done is work with one of our South African PH’s to secure three good blocks of time and some GREAT prices. You could do the whole trip for about the same price as a good whitetail hunt here in the states. It’s cheap! Doak and Cory are personally escorting all three of the following hunts: 7 Day Rifle Safari for Five Animals – May 6-12 BOOKED 10 Day Archery Safari for Five* Animals – May 13-22 – Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Kudu, Springbuck, Impala... It started as just a regular black bear hunt and it became an obsession. I was guiding bear hunters in Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains and a group of hunters from Wisconsin had sent us some trail cameras. We had six well-established baits spread over our hunting area and they were already getting hit hard even though it was only late April. I was excited to get the cameras out and early the next morning I made the rounds to see if we had any pictures. I was hoping for three or four. We had eighty. Hmmm… Who woulda guessed? One of our bears looked like a monster. It wasn’t a great picture and at first glance, isn’t very impressive until the next day when we noticed that he had been about 20 yards beyond the barrel and the tracks….... [SEE MORE]

My buddy Kris Keller who runs Sulphur Creek Ranch invited us on a wolf hunt / scouting trip for elk season. There was one catch though. We had to help him build “a little” trail first. No problem. It was only a 3 1/2 hour ride from the trailhead, but by dark we still weren’t to base camp and a big storm was headed our way fast! Did I mention I had never been to this camp before? Kris told me to “…ride to the lodge, take a right, go to the top of the ridge and then take another right to the top of the next ridge. Once you’re there, head left down towards some lake looking stuff“. Easy right? So, 4 hours later it was pitch dark and I was hoping we were at least getting close when the rain and hail hit…... I’ve been a busy guy the last few years and haven’t gotten out hunting nearly enough. To be honest, I’ve felt like the plumber who has leaky pipes. It’s been frustrating to say the least, but for the last few months I’ve been working closely with Chris Burget of BullsandBeavers.com building and managing his website through my other business, WebDog Services and he invited me to hunt elk with him. His cabin is in one of Idaho’s best elk hunting units and I was looking forward to our hunt. We only had 1 1/2 days to hunt due to work obligations, but we made the best of it. Here’s the story: I met Chris at the grocery store in Sun Valley on Friday evening and we bought $84 worth of snacks. The prices there... [SEE MORE]

Hog hunting in Utah you ask? Well, kind of… For the past few years we have gone camping with my wife’s family in Utah during Easter weekend. Our traditional Easter camping spot is about a mile or so away from a big ranch loaded with exotic game including Russian Boar and I’m intrigued every time we drive down to camp. Our itinerary usually includes paint-ball wars, Easter egg hunts for the kids, hiking, riding four-wheelers, fishing and shooting clay pigeons. Just your average good ‘ole redneck-type fun. As you know, the weather this time of year can be marginal at best and this year was no exception. While we were staring at each other over the fire in the rain we naturally started talking about hunting, and that led... [SEE MORE]

I’m hoping to hunt whitetails in Kansas this fall in order to check out a new outfitter. I know, my job sucks, but I do my best to keep my head up. I figured I would post the application process as a resource to our clients, so here ya go: From Kansas Department of Wildlife and Park Applications must be made online through the KDWP website and the application deadline is midnight on June 1. Downloadable mail-in applications are not available, and none will be accepted. This application applies to Nonresident White-tailed Deer permits only. It’s almost time to start bear hunting here in Idaho. We can bait here so I always set a few up even though I prefer to spot and stalk with my bow. Here’s a little run down of our bait/trail camera experience a few years ago. In the spring of 2007, we purchased trail cameras for our bear baits. We were suprised not only with the number of bears he had, but also with the color phases and the quality of the bears. After the season was over, we compiled the pictures and did a conservative count of the individual bears (some bears hit the bait over and over again even on the same day, so we tried not to count those bears more than once). Here are the numbers that we came up with: We had at least 37 different bears hitting the six... [SEE MORE]

Conclusion of: The Heartbreak Bull – Part I | Part II …I sat there in my blind for about an hour. Dejected. Depressed. Beaten. I could hear the two bulls above me. Taunting me. I decided I was going after them. I had nothing to lose, it was my last chance. I can’t remember how, but Cary ended up with me again later that day. We ate lunch and made our last march up to the bedding area. It was late afternoon and the wind was actually blowing down towards us while we slowly picked our way through the timber and we could hear the big bull bugling up above us. The herd was slowly work up and over the ridge. We had to hurry! We pushed hard to within 100 yards of the bull and we could see him and a few cows milling around up ahead... [SEE MORE]
