Hey Guys, Every now and then I have one of those nights that I just can’t sleep. I went to bed thinking about Africa! I really don’t know why either, next week I am going on a coues deer hunt in southern Arizona. This is a really great hunt and I should be counting coues deer like sheep, but I just can’t get Africa out of my head. The most incredible thing anyone could ever do is chase game around the plains of Africa and I want to share this wonderful Continent with everyone I meet. Most men tell me that they have always dreamed about Africa but they always thought it was expensive and dangerous, but that’s just not true. For about the same price as a good whitetail deer hunt you can go to Africa. My kudu from... [SEE MORE]

It started as just a regular black bear hunt and it became an obsession. I was guiding bear hunters in Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains and a group of hunters from Wisconsin had sent us some trail cameras. We had six well-established baits spread over our hunting area and they were already getting hit hard even though it was only late April. I was excited to get the cameras out and early the next morning I made the rounds to see if we had any pictures. I was hoping for three or four. We had eighty. Hmmm… Who woulda guessed? One of our bears looked like a monster. It wasn’t a great picture and at first glance, isn’t very impressive until the next day when we noticed that he had been about 20 yards beyond the barrel and the tracks….... [SEE MORE]

Hey folks, I just spent the morning cutting up four deer that we harvested last week in South Texas while filming our new show Outdoors International Presents “The Bucket List Adventures”. Cory and I felt that it would be appropriate that we have an episode that included our own bucket list hunts and our first stab at it was a total success. You see my son Mike was married very young in life and never showed much interest in big game hunting. He loved to shoot birds, but deer hunting was never high on his list. Needless to say, I was excited when he showed some interest in hunting whitetails with me in South Texas. I have always longed to see my son take his first deer. That has been on my bucket list since he was a little boy. In... [SEE MORE]

Late fall/early winter is a great time to start tying up some patterns to restock the fly boxes depleted by another year on the water, lets not abandon the fishing quite yet. I have had several great days on the river this past month. It does get a bit hit and miss as the weather and the water temps cool but when you hit it right the fishing can be outstanding. I have still been running into some great baetis hatches around here and so with that in mind I thought I would share my favorite pattern when fish are sipping the Blue Winged Olive Duns off the rivers surface. This pattern is basically a Sparkle Dun with a biot body, and I use a CDC feather for the trailing shuck instead of Z-lon. I like the Sparkle dun because it is so versatile. ... [SEE MORE]

Skepticism. That word describes how I felt about this product when I got it in the mail. A fishing hook that you don’t tie onto your line? You just wrap your line around it a few times? Yeah, right. You’ve gotta be kidding. Well, I have to admit it… I was wrong. These things are cool! My family and I took these hooks and spent the summer fishing. From trout in the kids pond to sturgeon, these hooks fit the bill. Here’s my review: Ease of Use: Couldn’t get any easier. Now, I’ve got to say that I’m not going to introduce my kids to these hooks until they know how to tie “real” knots. There’s really no practical reason for this, but I just want my kids to know how to tie the knots.... [SEE MORE]

By Jody Narantic aka The Hunters Wife My mornings are usually spent enjoying a cup of coffee and having a quick chat with a few Twitter friends. One of those friends is Stacey Huston. Stacey and I started our friendship like most bloggers, online. Stacey is an outdoor photography and blogs at A Focus In The Wild. She also recently started offering her pictures for purchase at Stacey Huston’s Photos. Stacey is your all around outdoors kind of girl. She grew up out west and there is nothing more important to her than sharing that love with her family. You would think Stacey and I would have nothing in common. Just like my husband and I. The girl wears camouflage and takes cutesy pictures with her critters. I take pictures in my... [SEE MORE]

Late fall has arrived and a short flurry of snow here today reminded me that winter is on its way. Unless your favorite fishing location closes for the winter though you don’t need to hang up the fly rod just yet. I have a pattern that has become a favorite of mine from late fall through the early spring months. It is simple, and it works as a great midge pupa imitation. I fish it a variety of ways. Often I will fish it with a double nymph rig as the bottom fly fishing it deep with the aid of split shot. In the spring I like to use it as a dropper off an adult Skwala Stonefly pattern on rivers that have that hatch and fish it in the top foot of the water column. It will work all year I am sure but my focus during the summer seems to... [SEE MORE]

I’ve heard about Project Healing Waters which takes disabled veterans fly fishing to help with healing of the mind and soul. I’ve found that my time on and in the water casting a line does wash away my cares and problems, if even for the short term. It is very restorative. I found some of their stories as well as others on the Real American Stories website. Read and watch these inspirational stories at Real American Stories – Project Healing Waters.
