OK, I’ve gotta admit that I was skeptical when Harold from Stedi-Stock contacted me a few months ago wanting me to do a product review. I had seen the product before on hunting shows and was pretty sure that it was just a gimmick. It took me a while to test the product and get this review written and I’m pretty sure that Harold had given up on me, but recently I got my chance to test it out. Last weekend I took the Stedi-Stock along on a family camping trip and was pleasantly surprised at its functionality. I wanted to really test it and figured that mounting a spotting scope on it was the ultimate test. Every hunter knows that hand-holding a spotting scope just doesn’t work. I strapped it on and set off on a hike with my... [SEE MORE]

Hog hunting in Utah you ask? Well, kind of… For the past few years we have gone camping with my wife’s family in Utah during Easter weekend. Our traditional Easter camping spot is about a mile or so away from a big ranch loaded with exotic game including Russian Boar and I’m intrigued every time we drive down to camp. Our itinerary usually includes paint-ball wars, Easter egg hunts for the kids, hiking, riding four-wheelers, fishing and shooting clay pigeons. Just your average good ‘ole redneck-type fun. As you know, the weather this time of year can be marginal at best and this year was no exception. While we were staring at each other over the fire in the rain we naturally started talking about hunting, and that led... [SEE MORE]

A quote I carry in my wallet: Not all dogs are fit to hunt, nor in the same way are all men gratified by it. Nor, for those of us who share this dogs pleasure of hunting (if you will,) do I ask special tolerance or understanding. We are as we are and if we seem to you to act immorally it is certainly your right to feel so, but I say most seriously that you exceed your rights when you urge that laws be made in the shape of your conscience to block pleasures permitted by mine. When you prevail you commit a crime against freedom and that’s the greatest immorality I know. ~ Vance Vourgaily Read More →

Our Idaho black bear outfitter has had some good success on bears so far this season. Their largest of the year is this big chocolate bear was shot over bait within 1/2 mile of the lodge. Ray Christenson with his 12 year old daughter as a sidekick, harvested this bear on the first day of their hunt. Glassing and still hunting in the morning to no avail he decided to sit on one of our baits at about 4:00 pm his bear arrived but only 12 minutes later. The bears back while on all 4’s was about 4-6 inches higher than the bait barrel. He measures 6′4″ nose to tail and weighs approx 375 400 pds. Here are some bears that they’ve captured on their trail cameras that are still out there. Learn more about this bear hunt. Read More →
