Here’s a pic of the tom lion our Utah Outfitter harvested this week. Hunting conditions were hard, but they were able to make it happen. The hunter John N. said this was an exciting hunt with the lion coming down the tree to challenge a pack of excited hounds. Luckily no dogs were killed. Learn more about this Utah Mountain Lion Hunt. Image credit: Cameron Miller | Original Story by Deneki Outdoors Fishing guides spend a lot of time together in remote places. Over time, a guide staff’s dialect develops to the point of becoming close to a foreign language. If you’re planning a fly-fishing trip to Alaska this summer, learning the terms in this handy glossary will help you understand what the heck your guide is talking about. Tiddler – n. A particularly small fish. “I tried to get my flesh fly in front of Walter [see below], but a tiddler grabbed it first.” Blub – v. To briefly break the surface of the water, as done by a king salmon. “I knew I was about to hook up when I started seeing all those kings blub.” Mega – adj.... [SEE MORE]

image credit Deneki Outdoors Do any of these five things while fishing for bonefish and you’ll be NOT catching fish in no time. Wear shoes in the boat. Always go barefoot when fishing out of the boat so you can feel your line if it’s underneath your feet. If you’re wearing shoes, you won’t know if you’re standing on the line. Use a fly that’s too heavy. At the Bahamas, we fish for bonefish in really skinny water. Using a lead-eyed fly that’s designed for deep water in the Florida Keys, will scare the crap out of bonefish. Guaranteed. Focus only on the bonefish you’re casting to. Bonefish tend to be in groups. If there’s a fish between you and your target, you’ll line him and spook... [SEE MORE]

From The Outdoor Wire PHOENIX – The Arizona Game and Fish Department reports lab tests found no detection of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in any of the 2,343 testable samples from hunter-harvested or road-killed deer and elk during Arizona’s 2008-09 hunting season. The department has tested approximately 12,500 deer and elk samples since beginning its surveillance program in 1998. None have tested positive for the disease. Although CWD has not yet been found in Arizona, it is present in three neighboring states: Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. “We nearly doubled our surveillance and collection of samples in areas of concern where neighboring states have detected CWD, which makes announcing another season with no detection in... I come from a family of institutionalized hunting, meaning my great grandfather taught my grandfather, he taught my dad, my dad taught me and I will one day teach my son. It feels me with a great since of pride being able to carry on these traditions... [SEE MORE]

It’s almost time to start bear hunting here in Idaho. We can bait here so I always set a few up even though I prefer to spot and stalk with my bow. Here’s a little run down of our bait/trail camera experience a few years ago. In the spring of 2007, we purchased trail cameras for our bear baits. We were suprised not only with the number of bears he had, but also with the color phases and the quality of the bears. After the season was over, we compiled the pictures and did a conservative count of the individual bears (some bears hit the bait over and over again even on the same day, so we tried not to count those bears more than once). Here are the numbers that we came up with: We had at least 37 different bears hitting the six... [SEE MORE]

One of our South African PH’s has recently teamed up with a hunting society for disabled hunters in South Africa. The aim of this society has mainly been to promote the awareness of hunting under disabled South African hunters, and allow them the opportunity to experience the thrill of the hunt for themselves. Through this collaboration, they can now offer disabled hunters a wide range of hunting opportunities catering specifically to their needs. The members of the society are more in tune with the requirements related to persons with disabilities and also have access to some great disabled-hunter friendly hunting areas and lodges and will be closely involved with all disabled hunting efforts. Breakthrough technology in the form of a... [SEE MORE]
