from: South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks On January 25, 2009, a Wolf was shot and killed by a coyote hunter in Roberts County. The wolf was a female and weighed approximately 70 pounds. Individuals planning on hunting coyotes in north-eastern South Dakota, particularly in Northern Roberts County, must use extreme caution before shooting any coyotes to ensure that the animal is definitely a coyote and not a wolf. One of our Featured Outfitters in Utah sent us these pictures from his hunts this year. They had a great season. Their hunters had good success on trophy animals. Photo by Kevin Eilbeck Motorists urged to use caution near Cleghorn Fish Hatchery It is an annual right of passage and a rare opportunity to see an impressive big game animal exhibiting aggressive and amazing instincts, but motorists near the Cleghorn Fish Hatchery in the Black Hills are being asked to slow down for bighorn sheep. “This time of year, many of our resident bighorn sheep come down from the higher elevations to breed,†said John Kanta, Game Fish and Parks regional game manager for western South Dakota. “Unfortunately many of the animals congregate on or near the road around the Cleghorn Fish Hatchery. We are just reminding motorists to slow down when traveling that area.†The sheep tend to congregate on... [SEE MORE]

From the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources: “It was a dream,” Dwight Bunnell said of the time about 30 years ago when biologists started talking about putting bison back on the Book Cliffs in eastern Utah. “When we started, many felt there would never be a chance to return bison to public lands here,” he said. “But this is proof dreams can come true.” A retired Wildlife Section chief for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Bunnell was among about 60 people on hand to see the historic reintroduction of 16 bison onto public lands in the Book Cliffs. Everyone in attendance at the Jan. 14 release seemed to agree. “This is exciting!” said Bill Christensen, Utah director for the Rocky Mountain... [SEE MORE]
