Like him or hate him, Ted Nugent has taken a firm stand on his views and is unafraid to state them. I think we can all learn from that in this age of political correctness. I’ve got to say that I tend to agree with him. What do you think? By the way, a pretty interesting discussion is going on over at Holly’s NorCal Cazadora blog concerning Ted Nugent. Read More →

I need to hunt Texas for whitetails. I’m intrigued. Just looks like a lot of fun and much different than the hunting I’m used to. Read More →

For those of you who missed it, this is a continuation of a previous story where Cary’s son, Logan got his first elk. Now on to Cary’s bull hunt. Monday I hunted all day in the same two canyons without seeing any elk. Tuesday I decided to hunt the next canyon. I got up extra early to be there in plenty of time before the elk started to bed down. After hiking about a mile I decided to break out the cow call. I was above a grove of quakies and not ten seconds after calling two satellite bulls started fighting. They obviously thought I was a cow elk and were fighting to see who would claim the spoils. While they were busy fighting I walked up around the quakie patch to get a look at the bulls and spooked them around the small... [SEE MORE]

A hunter shot this crocodile in Africa and when they were cleaning him, they found a person in it’s stomach. Native’s in Africa won’t eat crocodiles because they feel they are eating their relatives. That’s how many people crocodiles eat. If you have a weak stomach, beware. These pictures are…. graphic. Open the thumbnails below at your own risk. Read More →

A good friend of mine, Cary Craner sent me this story of their elk hunts this year. He hunts the same areas I do so the exact whereabouts are off limits. Congratulations Cary and good job getting those kids out there. Logan, my son drew a cow elk tag in one of Idaho’s premier elk hunting units. Opening day we went up with Grandpa Craner and hunted 1/2 day to see what was around we saw a huge herd Bull and about 20 cows. Logan got a couple of broadside shots at a cow about 250 yards away and we thought he had hit it but no luck. I had to go to Salt Lake City for the weekend for a scouting meeting so that is why we could only hunt 1/2 day. The next weekend Logan and I hauled the trailer up Thursday night to the campground. Kaden had... [SEE MORE]

I received these pictures in my email with no story attached, but they are pretty cool. I’ve never seen a piebald myself, but I once saw an albino whitetail doe in Northern Idaho. Many folks feel that albinos and piebalds should be protected from hunting. I think they make a great trophy, plus by harvesting them, we get inferior animals out of the population. Biologists say that protecting albinos, piebald and melanistic deer from hunting would have no biological impact and probably would not result in an increase of these traits. What do you think? What is a Piebald? A piebald is an animal that has a spotting pattern of large asymmetrical white and black or brown patches. A genetic variation (defect) produces the piebald condition in... I know you are concerned about closures of our public lands. The Omnibus Land Act of 2008 is a massive land grab bill that will lock up millions of additional acres of public land, close thousands of miles of recreation trails, harm already struggling rural economies, further reduce renewable resource harvesting, be detrimental to forest health by eliminating all forest management, restrict property rights and hamstring energy exploration in the United States. If there were awards for bad legislation this bill might take first, second & third, but unless more people speak up it is likely to pass. Please take two minutes to submit a pre drafted letter to legislators opposing this bill by clicking below: http://72.167.145.231/savethetrails/Default.aspx?PetitionID=31 Please... [SEE MORE]

Camoflauge is a big-money product for the outdoor industry and they’re always coming up with new, “prettier” patterns. I guess that I’m just as big a sucker as everybody else because my closet is full of pretty much every type of camo ever produced. I recently came across this article at Blast & Cast Outdoors. It seems that they’ve finally figured it out. A camoflauge that actually makes you vanish. It’s called Optifade. An article in the New York Times is claiming that scientists have tapped into the brains of deer and they now know how they see. Sound too good to be true? I thought so too, but it looks like the makers or Gore-Tex rain gear have found out how to use computer-generated images to camouflage... [SEE MORE]
