Chris Debban - 1st archery harvest He finally scores!!!!!  Well, I tried to kill off my buddy for 8 days but he is a little too tough or stupid, not sure which, to give up. As with most hunts you have fun, get frustrated, think about heading home early, and then you can’t wait to go do it again. This year was a tough hunt with hot and dry conditions, quite bulls, and way too much wolf activity to make a guy feel comfortable in the dark. We had high hopes for the hunt but after a few days things were looking rough us. I wound up with the flu and Chris’s knee was bugging him but we kept at it. We hunted high for 6 days and then finally got a weather break. The first day of cooler weather I called in nice... Our New Brunswick outfitter had his first black bear hunt in his new hunting area (zone 10) this week. The hunter saw four bears on a three day hunt. He bagged a 405 lb. boar that will easily make both Pope and Young and Boone and Crockett with his Mathews bow and Muzzy broadhead. Amazingly, he saw one larger bear! One of our hunters will be on the next hunt. Good luck Randy. See the information on this bear hunt. Read More →

If you like seeing big bull elk… and I’m sure you do. Who doesn’t Check out this video of a monster bull found this summer in Utah. Some people think that he will score around 500 or so. Wow. His mass is awesome, and points are going everywhere, but his inside spread is average to small. Score aside, nobody can say that he isn’t amazing. To add to this drama, the guys over at Addicted To Hunting have a friend who knows where he is and is planning on hunting him during archery season. I’m sure they’ll keep us posted as the season progresses. UPDATE: The Utah DWR is wondering if the video of this bull is legit. None of their agents have seen him in the area he is said to roam. Spider bull down! On September... [SEE MORE]

Apparently in Missoula, Montana a school teacher ran over a black bear while riding his bicycle to school. He came over a rise, spotted the bear ten feet ahead, didn’t have time to stop and T-boned him. He went over the front of his handlebars, rolled over the bear’s back and the two cartwheeled down the road. He suffered some minor bruising and a big scratch on his back. The bear was unhurt. This story makes me wonder… who hit who? Read More →

September 5, 2008 United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 Re: Support H.R. 3036, the No Child Left Inside Act Dear Representative: On behalf of sportsmen’s organizations, we urge you to vote YES on H.R. 3036, the No Child Left Inside Act, which will provide significant new support and funding for environmental education in the nation’s public K-12 schools. As life-long hunters, anglers and conservation advocates, we are greatly concerned about the growing disconnect between children and nature. Today’s children spend half as much time outside as kids did just 20 years ago and, on average, spend six and a half hours every day plugged into electronic media. Fewer children know the joys of hunting, fishing,... [SEE MORE]

With increased spring and summer rains experienced across much of the grouse range in South Dakota, biologists are optimistic about the outlook for grouse hunting in 2008. According to South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Regional Wildlife Manager Andy Lindbloom of Pierre, sharp-tailed grouse and prairie chicken populations in South Dakota are monitored using information from spring lek surveys, harvest report cards and wing collections from hunters. Leks are areas where grouse traditionally congregate during the breeding season and compete for breeding opportunities. Lek surveys completed in 2008 indicate that the prairie chicken breeding population has increased since 2007, while the sharp-tailed grouse breeding population has increased only... [SEE MORE]
