Sheep Hunt #1: Sheep hunting has been a challenge this year due to all of the smoke from forest fires. We (Cory and Jess) hunted in the smoke for seven days before finding a ram for our first hunter. He wasn’t huge, but we figured he would go about 160 or so. We called Clayton on the Sat Phone and let him know that we had a ram spotted for him and he flew in that evening and we picked him up at the airstrip with the horses. The next morning we went after the ram. George and Kris got across the canyon to spot the rams and motion directions to us. It didn’t take them long to spot sheep and we started our climb. It didn’t look bad, but it was definitely a pull to get up as high as the sheep. After a few hours of climbing, we finally... [SEE MORE]

North Dakota Pheasant Hunting WOW! I’ve hunted pheasants for over forty years from Minnesota, to Colorado in some good area’s where the numbers were fairly strong. I have never seen the number of wild birds as I’ve seen in southwestern North Dakota. It was mind boggling. The first day of the hunt we hit the field at about noon, within the first 30 minutes we had a flock of at least 150 birds fly up. We were so astounded nobody fired, we had never seen that many at one time. The guide had done a perfect job. He posted two of our guy’s at the end of the field and four of us with two confused dogs walked the field. Needless to say within that two and one half hour walk we had all filled for the day. Every day we saw tremendous... [SEE MORE]

First South Dakota Pheasant Hunt of 2007 Our first South Dakota pheasant hunt of the season was a success! We had eight hunters mostly from Vail, Colorado, including Chuck’s cousin and two nephews. We got our limit of birds every day. Ninety birds in three days! AWESOME! The corn is still standing, so it is bound to just get better once it is down, but the hunting is already incredible! Bird numbers are at a fifty year high according to the South Dakota Dept. of Fish and Game. Thanks to Hayden and Abe of Eef Productions for their hard work taping the hunt for our promotional video. We are excited to see the final draft. I’m sure it will be great because these guys do super work. There is talk of them going back in December to film... [SEE MORE]

See this story in the Summer 2008 Issue of Trophy Hunter Magazine A big Idaho Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. As with all stories, this one starts with a simple impulse. On April 30th, 2007 I was in the Driggs Idaho Corner Drug store getting what I hoped to be the summer supply of allergy medicine for my 6th summer in Teton Valley Idaho. While I was waiting for the prescription, I filled out the form for my annual fishing and hunting license combo. Elsie Woulk mentioned that the 30th was the last day for application on controlled hunts so coincidentally I put in for my first lottery try on Big Horn Sheep. No one I know has ever drawn a Sheep Tag in Idaho so I put in for my wife Star at the same time hoping to increase the odds. In early June... [SEE MORE]

South Dakota is experiencing historically high pheasant numbers. Brood count surveys by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department estimated that statewide, this year’s pheasant population was 23 percent higher than last year’s and 18 percent greater than the 2005 pheasant population, which was at a 40-year high. Nick Cochran, a conservation officer with the S. Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Dept. says: “We haven’t seen numbers like this since 1963.” Read More →

Dan Wolfe with his bull elk Dan bought this elk hunt from one of our Outfitters at a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet. It was his first elk hunt and he had a blast and got this great bull to boot. Also, he was able to take his wife along because they stayed in the outfitters lodge in Idaho’s Frank Church Wilderness. They both had a great time. Check out our elk hunts. Read More →

Idaho Shiras Moose Chuck drew a coveted Shiras Moose tag in Idaho. Due to some health problems, he couldn’t make it for the opener, so he had to schedule his hunt a little later. By the time he flew into the hunting area, elk hunters had a camp set up in the main moose hunting area. They hunted for a week and didn’t see any moose. What a disappointment. A few weeks later, Chuck flew in again. They only had a few days to hunt, and on the last hour of the last day, they finally found a good bull. They snuck in and Chuck made a great shot to put him down. Congratulations Chuck. Read More →

Hunting late season birds can be frustrating if you don’t know what your doing. Smart birds will run until they have no other option but to fly. Figure out how to hunt them and you can have some of the best hunting of the year. Get organized before you even get close to the field so you don’t spook the roosters. Roosters get up in packs and if you spook one, the rest will follow. This one simple piece of information is priceless. How to Block a field: Walkers & Dogs Most everyone likes to walk because of the action or of course to stay warm on a cold day. Usually the dog owners get to walk all the time if there are few dogs in the group. The key of the walkers and dogs is to work the piece of cover and push the birds to keep... [SEE MORE]
